Meadows Valley 26-27 Highlights

🎒 Welcome Back, Mountaineer Families!

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome our students, parents, and community members back for the 2026–2027 school year! At Meadows Valley, our vision is to prepare all students for life’s requirements, adventures, and challenges. We offer a safe, welcoming, and intellectually stimulating educational community where teachers promote the success of each student and where we work in partnership with our surrounding community.

To help everyone get off to a great start, here are some key highlights and helpful updates from our newly updated 2026–2027 Student Handbooks:

🧸 Meadows Valley Elementary School Highlights

Rise and Shine! Our elementary doors open daily at 7:40 AM, with breakfast served until 7:55 AM. Get here in time to eat; no food leaves the cafeteria. The first bell rings at 7:55 AM, and school officially begins at 8:00 AM. Dismissal is at 3:45 PM.

Aligned Attendance Policy: To support regular learning and align our expectations across the district, the elementary school is adopting the secondary attendance standard. Students must be in attendance at least 90% of each semester, which means missing no more than seven (7) days per semester for any reason, both excused and unexcused.

Nightly Reading: Supporting our young readers is a team effort! Along with completing any makeup work, our elementary students are expected to read to an adult for 20 minutes each night.

Device-Free Classrooms: To protect our focused learning environments, personal electronic devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and earbuds, are not permitted at school. If a device is observed, it will be turned in to the office and must be retrieved by a parent or guardian between 3:45 PM and 4:15 PM.

🏔️ Meadows Valley Secondary School Highlights

New 52-Credit Graduation Minimum: In alignment with our updated Board Policy 2410, the high school graduation requirement has been finalized at a minimum of 52 semester credits. This includes 34 core instruction credits and 18 elective credits, along with our yearly Portfolio Projects, Future Readiness Project, Financial Literacy, and Digital Literacy requirements to help prepare students for life’s adventures.

Attendance Limit: Regular attendance is vital to high school success. High school and middle school students may not miss more than seven (7) days or have more than seven (7) absences in the same class period per semester to maintain credit eligibility.

Strict Cell Phone Rules: To minimize distractions, all personal mobile devices are restricted from classrooms, the gym, shop, and band room during class and transition times. High school students may check their devices during lunch (12:00 PM–12:30 PM) and after dismissal at 3:45 PM. On a first or second offense, phones will be held in the office for parent retrieval; a third offense will result in the loss of the privilege of bringing a phone to school. Students will receive detention with the first offense. Second and third offences may lead to detention, in-school or out-of-school suspension.

Smart Use of AI: Academic integrity is a core value of a Mountaineer. Our plagiarism policy explicitly notes that the unapproved use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) content constitutes plagiarism. Teachers will outline the exact boundaries of acceptable AI use for their specific classes so that students learn to use these tools responsibly.

Tech Use: Students will have restricted use of Chromebooks or iPads for educational purposes only. Any student who violates technology use rules will lose the opportunity to use devices for the semester and/or year. Devices will not be assigned to students and will remain in our classrooms at the end of each class period. Student use will be monitored, and any misuse of devices will result in consequences for the student on the first offense. There will be zero tolerance for misuse of tech. Consequences will be determined by teachers and administration. Students may receive in-school suspension for their first offence.

We invite all parents to stay connected with us throughout the year. If you have any questions or simply want to touch base, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office. Thank you for your continued support, trust, and partnership—let’s make it a wonderful year!

Warmest regards,

The Meadows Valley School District Administration & Staff
